Couch, ottoman or side table when pets share the room?
Compare how the surface supports your drink and changes as people and pets move.

A side table separates the drink from seating
A sturdy, level table can keep a drink off a moving cushion. Check the tabletop area, distance from the edge and your actual reach. Keep it out of your pet’s path; a table alone does not stop a curious pet accessing the drink.
An ottoman needs its own check
Upholstery varies. Seams, tufting, rounded edges and soft or uneven fill can interrupt support. Steadi needs the whole 5.2-inch base level and supported; it cannot create a stable surface underneath itself. Foot placement and pets climbing onto the ottoman also change the situation.
A couch changes when someone joins you
The spot can shift when a person or pet sits down. Recheck before replacing the drink, and move it when that seat becomes active. Use a separate stable surface if the cushion slopes or changes shape. Steadi does not attach to upholstery.
A tray is another tradeoff
A suitable stable tray can provide a flat area, but the tray itself must remain level and supported. Follow its intended use, and keep it outside pet movement. A tray resting partly over a soft cushion or edge is not automatically an improvement.
Choose the location before the accessory
If no suitable spot exists beside you, leave the drink on another stable surface. A convenient position is not worth assuming a holder will make an unsuitable setup work. Use the footprint check and inspect your actual surface before choosing.
